Challenge:

The project dealt with a space that was originally designed for use as a cooler, but instead had been used as a freezer. Due to the misuse of the space, heaving and frost build-up caused the ground to freeze 9’ below grade.

Solution:

The slab was removed; the ground was blanketed, heated and dehumidified to accelerate the thawing process. Columns had to be reinforced and the soil stabilized. Upon the sub-grade corrections, glycol warming was installed and the slab was poured back. The facility remained fully operational throughout the project.
